The British Science Association are closely monitoring the ongoing coronavirus situation, and we are aware that with British Science Week starting on Friday 6 March, there will be lots of events taking place across the country – both big and small – and some people may be concerned that these pose a possible risk.
We would advise all event organisers and volunteers taking part in British Science Week to stay up-to-date with the latest guidance from Public Health England, Health Protection Scotland, Public Health Wales and the other local authorities responsible in their area, and to put into practice that guidance. Events and activities should be able to go ahead in most circumstances, but there will be some instances where that is not the case.
If you or your organisation has received funding from the British Science Association in order to run events during British Science Week, and you believe there is a risk that you may need to cancel your event, for example, because a venue or school has been closed, we would encourage you to get in touch with us via the usual channels.
For those who are concerned about attending events during British Science Week, we would advise you to follow the guidance from Public Health England, Health Protection Scotland, and Public Health Wales. We would also remind you that there are lots of ways to take part in British Science Week without attending events, such as our citizen science project – Spotting Spider Monkeys – and our new social media campaign, Smashing Stereotypes.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do get in touch.
We hope you have a fantastic British Science Week!
