British Science Week 2022 is just one month away! The Week, supported by UK Research and Innovation, will take place between 11-20 March and whether you’re a school, a community group, or planning to celebrate at home there are still loads of ways to take part.
Download the activity packs – free!
One of the best ways to get involved with British Science Week on any budget is by using the free activity packs available to download from our website. This year we have four activity packs, all with the theme of ‘Growth’! The packs are tailor-made for either a community group – with ways to include grown-ups – or children and young people of early years, primary or secondary ages. There really is something for everyone!
Some activities are hands-on and let the children and young people enjoy getting messy as they learn, others ask them to think about different types of growth in the world around them, and how they fit in. The activities are relatively low-resource, with some needing craft materials and items such as seeds and thermometers, while others such as ‘Antibody and virus origami’ only require sheets of paper!
Plan or attend an event!
British Science Week is a celebration the whole community can take part in and enjoy. The Week is a wonderful opportunity to plan science-themed events than can engage children of all abilities and interests, and demonstrate how science links with other school subjects and has fascinating real-world applications!
Planning an event isn’t the only way to take part, why not attend one?! Check out Science Live to find events taking place during the
Enter the poster competition!
An incredibly popular way to take part in British Science Week is to ask children to make posters around the theme of the Week, which this year is ‘Growth’! They can be entered into our nationwide poster competition, with the chance of winning some fantastic prizes!
The theme of ‘Growth’ is super versatile; it could cover anything from plant growth, animal life cycles, the urban growth of cities to personal growth through experience. The activity packs offer loads of inspiration for posters, just look for the paint brush symbol at the top of the pages!
With Early Years, Infants, Junior and Senior categories, spanning ages 3-14, anyone could win! The deadline for entries is 5pm on 15 April.
Smash stereotypes!
We are dedicated to improving diversity in STEM, and an important way to achieve this is through visible role models working across every area of science, research and industry. So as part of British Science Week, we run our Smashing Stereotypes campaign, which shares the stories of people from different walks of life reinventing ideas around what scientists actually do and what they look like.
