Connecting communities to British Science Week

The British Science Association (BSA) runs British Science Week British Science Week, which brings people together over a ten-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths. This year, for British Science Week’s 30th anniversary, we’re launching a brand new Communities Hub where community groups and individuals can get inspiration to celebrate the Week

We are always keen to find ways to reach out and support people from backgrounds underrepresented in and underserved by science. We know that community groups already do wonderful work for their audiences, but are busy and need accessible information that can be utilised easily to deliver at a community level for maximum impact – and fun!

A one-stop-shop…

Our new, dedicated hub brings together an exciting and engaging selection of resources and content, easily accessible on one webpage. Resources include free-to-download Community Activity pack links,  links to science influencers on TikTok and stories from our Smashing Stereotypes profiles to inspire and intrigue.

A new nature partnership

What’s more, the BSA have reconnected with The Woodland Trust’s Nature Calendar for 2024. Nature’s Calendar is the longest written biological record in the UK and a citizen science project steeped in history! Together, we are encouraging everyone in the UK to record observations in nature within their local areas and make observations about seasonal events for Spring.

Citizen science is proven to have positive impacts on scientific research, people’s health and community cohesion. People and groups taking part will contribute significantly to knowledge about how humans have affected and continue to impact the timing of Spring.

Your ideas

British Science Week is for everyone and anyone, and there are no boundaries on who can host, organise and participate in events. If you have any ideas or suggestions for this page, then why not send through to [email protected] with ‘Communities hub suggestion’ in the subject line. We won’t be able to feature them all, but will pick the ones that are the most useful to community groups.
