British Science Week Q&A with a Guinness World Record holder

In 2019, explorer Victor Vescovo was recognised by Guinness World Records as the First person to reach Earth’s highest and lowest points.

Vescovo has experienced Earth’s most extremes – and has now been inducted into the GWR Hall of Fame in the GWR 2021 edition (to be published this Autumn).

Last month, schools across the UK were given an opportunity to submit a question to Victor and in this special video made for British Science Week he answers some of them.

In the film, he talks about his experience of Earth’s extremes – reaching the summit of Mount Everest and the depths of the ocean floor. He discusses some of the wonderful diversity of species that he has seen on his travels, from equipment-carrying mountain yaks to completely transparent creatures in the deep sea and a bright red jellyfish beside the wreck of the Titanic. Finally, Vescovo makes a rallying cry for humans to do more to reduce our impact on the planet.

Thank you to everyone who submitted a question and we hope the film will give you lots of inspiration for your British Science Week poster competitions entries.
