We’re thrilled to announce that our British Science Week 2022 grants are now open for applications!
Our Kick Start Grants and Community Grants give schools and community groups respectively the means to organise their own events and activities during the Week, which will next take place from 11-20 March 2022. Supported by UK Research and Innovation, this funding is specifically designed to help audiences who do not usually take part in science to get involved in this annual celebration of all things STEM.
Kick Start Grants
If you need a bit of help to get your students and the wider school community involved in British Science Week, then our Kick Start Grants of up to £700 could be for you. These grants enable schools in challenging circumstances to devise and run their own events and activities as part of British Science Week.

Applications close sharp at 5pm on Monday 8 November 2021, so be sure to complete the form in good time!
We particularly welcome applications for projects that are cross-curricular, which challenge science stereotypes, and which engage students who are otherwise underrepresented in science. The small (but important) print
All eligible state-funded schools are welcome to apply for any of the following Kick Start Grants:
- Kick Start Grant: A grant of £300 for your school to run an activity during British Science Week.
- Kick Start Youth Grant: A grant of £150 for students aged 10-19 at your school to organise and deliver an activity during British Science Week.
- Kick Start More Grant: A grant of £700 for your school to host a science event or activity that involves your students and the local community.
- Kick Start Grant + Youth Grant: A combined grant of £450 for your school to run an activity during British Science and an additional activity organised and delivered by students aged 10-19.

Community Grants
The aim of our Community Grants is to help community groups to engage their audiences with science in ways that are tailor-made to them. We’re offering grants of £500 and £1000 to support these groups to run their own events and activities for British Science Week 2022, expanding the number of people who enjoy and take part in science.

Again, the deadline for applications is 5pm on Monday 8 November 2021, and only forms submitted before this time will be considered. So what are you waiting for?

Not-to-be-ignored information
To be eligible, applicants must represent a community-based group, club or organisation that works directly with audiences who are traditionally underrepresented and currently not engaged in science activity. These include:
- people from ethnic minorities. *
- people with low socio-economic status, including people disadvantaged in terms of education and income.
- people with a physical or mental condition or impairment.
- people living in a remote or rural location, defined as a settlement of fewer than 10,000 people
- girls and women.
* Ethnic minorities include all people who don’t self-describe as White British. It includes Irish, except in Northern Ireland.
